He tends to be a Large Ham (and also rather Hot-Blooded and childish) in his combat form, but becomes more mild-mannered in his regular form. The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: According to Myrus, Vares' personality changes depending on his active form.Large Ham: He gets carried away quite easily when he speaks in his battle form.Drops it after Guildna returns in his younger form. Kill All Humans: His shared goal with the Beast King.In an unusual case, it's the party that fights him as a boss, and his defeat and apparent death are what finally did the job. "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Transforms himself into Beast Vita Vares to snap Guildna out of the Phantom voices controlling him.His real appearance is more nerdish and demure, but still ripped. Hulking Out: Chapter 26 reveals his massive armored form is his "combat mode".Heroic RRoD: Beast Vita Vares will stack offensive buffs every three turns as he also changes his type resistance, but it will also deplete quite a number of his health.Heroic Build: Even in his regular form, he's absolutely shredded.Subverted when it is revealed that he managed to survive, but it's still enough to shake Guildna to snap him out of the Phantom's voice. Go Out with a Smile: He seemingly dies at the climax of Guildna's VC upgrade quest, smiling as he tells his liege to "return to light".His horn evokes the Japanese stag beetle. Japanese Beetle Brothers: A one-man example.Half-Identical Twins: He's Myrus' twin brother.Embarrassing Nickname: "Var-Var", courtesy of his sister Myrus.He starts off by leading the attack on Baruoki to kidnap Feinne and is the first boss Aldo faces. His upgraded form in Guildna's VC upgrade quest, Beast Vita Vares, switches the type resistance every three turns or so.Once he drops his resistance aura, though, it's a race to burst him down before a Total Party Kill. His Otherlands fight is a lot tougher as he regularly switches the types of attacks he resists.You Will Be Spared: Technically, Guildna won the duel with Aldo in Chapter 2, but he spares Aldo's life and says a variant of this line simply because the latter was able to manifest the Ogre Rancorem.Wave-Motion Gun: His boss form in Chapter 13 is able to fire one.and will, for once, force the player to go out of their way to either grind levels or come up with a good strategy. In short, he cannot be cheesed as simply as most bosses prior note Vares and Galliard had weaknesses to party members provided to the player before their fights, Visus Embryo was easily killed with Another Force after half health, and Ogre Rancorem only required pure strength and stats. Use your food before reaching his area and you will probably be too weak from all the random encounters to do much. Use your HP and MP poorly in the first phase and you can easily find yourself wiped in the second. His boss fight alone is a huge difference from the castle full of Elite Mooks or anything you faced. He is the first boss to have multiple phases completely separate, but also deals massive amounts of damage. One-Winged Angel: Goes into this form for the second phase of his boss fight. ![]() Kill All Humans: His goal for his war against humanity.But Guildna then reveals that he was just holding back, and only started to get serious once Aldo wielded the Ogre Rancorem against him. Just Toying with Them: His encounter with Aldo in Chapter 2 is a Hopeless Boss Fight on its own, with him even mocking his opponent's swordplay.HP to 1: He has a move in the second phase of his boss fight that drops one party member's HP to 1% of their base health.He knocks Aldo senseless but backs down once he notices the Ogre Rancorem. Hopeless Boss Fight: The very first confrontation with him cannot be beaten.Unfortunately, the entire sequence is rendered as a cutscene, including Guildna's own counter-attack. Aldo was able to unleash the Ogre Rancorem and damage Guildna using Another Force. Cutscene Boss: What the final part of his Hopeless Boss Fight in Chapter 2 becomes.Climax Boss: He is fought properly in Chapter 13, and his defeat concludes an important arc for Aldo.After the power of the Geo Prisma resurrects him in his younger form, he decides to find peace with the humans with the help of Altena. He kicks off the main plot by kidnapping Feinne, believing her to have the power that will allow him to destroy humanity. Guildna is king of the beast folk, a people descended from the elemental spirits. ![]()
